Sport plays a key role at St Helen's, there are many opportunities to excel as well as plenty of encouragement to simply take part in sport for fun. In addition to their regular PE lessons, most girls at St Helen's enjoy participating in one, or more, of our extensive range of sports as part of a team or as a club. Many sports, particularly lacrosse and netball are played at county and regional level and sometimes beyond. The PE Department also runs a lacrosse tour to the USA for players age 16+ to play schools up and down the East Coast. Sport, therefore, is part of the girl's daily routine, whether it is the ever-popular middle school football club, hockey, rugby, swimming or dance.
Once they have left St Helen’s, many girls continue to play sport at university level and beyond. Notably, three Old Girls participated in the 2005 lacrosse World Championships, winning a bronze medal and two Old Girls took part in the 2008 Olympics. These are obviously exceptional, but we hope that the range of sporting activities on offer encourages all girls to have a go and find something athletic that they can enjoy throughout their lives.
We have clubs and/or teams in all the following sports, available at either lunchtime or after school.
