"Learning, motivation and inspiration"
Sport is an integral part of life at St Helen’s. We strive to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to find an activity that inspires her to achieve her potential, at whatever that level may be, developing a lifelong passion for sport and physical activity.
Our Department is busy, happy and vibrant, with large numbers of girls participating daily.

curriculum
Enjoyment of physical activity and sport stems from curriculum lessons, during which every girl is challenged in a broad range of activities to improve her skills and understanding. Please see our Physical Education Curriculum for more details.
sports tours
These are an important and enjoyable experience for many girls. Our lacrosse tour to the East Coast of the USA is well established and we are currently planning tours for netball and tennis. Our ski trip is another popular annual event.
clubs and squads
Extra-curricular clubs and squads in a wide range of activities, see below, are run at lunchtimes and after school. Girls enjoy using our extensive facilities, including the sports hall, netball courts, gymnasium, fitness suite, dance studio, tennis courts and multiple playing fields. Girls are actively encouraged to participate in extra-curricular sport for recreation and competition at the appropriate level. They receive high level coaching from both teachers and invited external specialists.
Clubs are open to all girls, allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy participating and improve their skills.
Weekly squad practices are held by age group to extend the most able in a team training environment.
We have clubs and/or teams in all the following sports - details can be found on pages 16-18 of "Beyond"

All girls have opportunities to compete through form competitions, intra-school events, our comprehensive inter-school fixtures list, and in county and national events. We are highly competitive within the region and have recently enjoyed national success in a number of activities. In addition, girls are encouraged to compete for county and national teams. St Helen’s girls currently compete at this level in Badminton, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rounders, Swimming and Tennis. Many girls go on to represent their universities in their chosen sports, and we have recently enjoyed watching Old Girls achieve success in World Championships and the 2008 Olympics.
