St Helen’s has a thriving drama department, which aims to provide high quality extra-curricular productions that are open to everyone.  Each year we stage at least one senior production (jointly with Abingdon School) and one junior production. In addition to this, Abingdon School provides a joint senior production.  And this is only the beginning…

2008 saw the staging of ‘The War Behind Doors’ by Charly Clive (year 11), produced and directed entirely by the girls themselves. This is not an uncommon event: recently a group of Year 10 girls produced and directed a production of ‘Living With Lady Macbeth,’ also without staff assistance. Also in 2008 Mr Verjee and Mr Taylor (Abingdon School) took a group of St Helen’s and Abingdon students to perform in the Edinburgh Festival, and Martha Bennett (Year 13) was awarded a place in the National Youth Theatre. 2007 marked Abingdon School’s 750th anniversary, where St Helen’s girls performed at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue and Mr Verjee took an A Level production called ‘Covered in Love’ to the Edinburgh Festival. The two Lower School drama clubs work towards lunchtime performances, based on improvisational work done throughout the course of the year.

Quite simply, there is so much going on in SHSK Drama. If you are passionate about theatre, keen to learn and willing to devote time and energy to creating exciting work then there will be something here for you to be involved in.
