We aim to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment of learning. The lessons are lively and challenging, broadly following the National Curriculum. Pupils are prepared for the St Helen’s Senior School examination in mathematics and English.

Tutors get to know the girls extremely well and are well placed to offer support on both academic and personal/social levels.

We benefit from having specialist teachers in specific subjects such as modern languages and science and have access to the full facilities of the Senior School, using the music rooms, science labs, ICT rooms, art and technology studios, Language Learning Centre, and gymnasiums each week. We also use the swimming pool at Abingdon School.

Many educational visits take place throughout the year including:

  •  Year 5 visit Chedworth Roman Villa in the autumn to study the impact of the Romans on Britain.
  • Year 6 visit Legoland in May to study Control Technology. To do this successfully they experience all the rides at close quarters! This is followed up by an excellent workshop in the Learning Zone.

library

Juniors come to the library for regular visits with their class teacher to discuss what they have been reading and to select books for their class bookshelf.  During Trinity Term pupils shadow the Kate Greenaway Medal which involves reading and reviewing books from the shortlist and producing a short presentation for a Greenaway Award Party hosted in the library. We encourage participation in other national reading events such as World Book Day and attend author visits and other activities where appropriate.
