The last Wednesday of term began with our annual Big Band Christmas assembly. The fantastic band entertained the school with Let it Snow and Santa Claus is Coming to Town as well as slightly less seasonal (but no less enjoyable) numbers, including Tequila! and Sweet Caroline. The assembly was also the opportunity to discover the results of this year’s Christmas Carol competition which gives the opportunity to anyone in the school to submit an original Christmas Carol. This year saw three winners – Caitlin (L6H) wrote a jazz inspired number entitled Gospel of Great Joy which was performed on Wednesday by Caitlin and Jess (U6C) and Isobel (L6A) composed a 2-part choral piece The Lord is Here which Ensemble Bar 61 performed on Friday. During the assembly, the whole school were taught to sing Isabella's(8L) winning carol The Christ Child and the school sang this together, accompanied by First Orchestra, in the final assembly of term on Friday.
Wednesday was also the occasion of school Christmas lunch – a delicious traditional Christmas meal prepared by chef Olivier and his amazing team. Brass Band entertained the school with a range of carols and Christmas melodies as everyone enjoyed the food and festivities.
