The Year of the Gold Pig began on 5 February 2019. To celebrate Chinese New Year the Year 9 and Year 10 Mandarin students enjoyed 18 authentic and delicious Chinese dishes in Oxford. The students especially loved dumplings and fried noodles symbolising wealth and longevity. Beijing roast duck with pancakes and Sichuan cuisine also made everyone’s mouth water. We also had a quiz about Spring Festival and Chinese New Year food and the winning teams received red envelopes as prizes.
Apart from the Chinese New Year dinner, there were more than 20 students taking part in the Chinese New Year card design competition. Head of Art Ms McDonald helped us to select the winners. 1st prize went to Kate (9L); 2nd prize to Claudia (9K); 3rd prize to Lucy (8M) and Frankie (8J). Their designs represent the essence of Chinese culture and Spring Festival, such as gold pig, fish and Chinese dragons. Congratulations to the winners!
