The Lower Sixth ‘introduction to higher education’ evening, which took place on zoom, talked through the process of university applications and other options available after school. The talk provided a great insight, useful tips and guidance – such as providing information about the Unifrog website, which was particularly beneficial for parents. The accompanying guide is extremely detailed and informative, already proving itself to be a useful resource. The guest speaker, Mike Nicholson, Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions from the University of Bath, provided the alternate perspective of what the process is like on their side and the importance of hitting deadlines. The current unease about applications surrounding Covid was also covered, reducing any potential fears and concerns which were previously held in that regard. Personally, my takeaway was the need to organise myself and begin the process early in order to be sure of reaching deadlines and to reduce panic at later stages.
