The Jazz Afternoon this year was full of fun and feel-good jazz! The Big Band played some fantastic hits such as ‘Cruella de Vil’ from 101 Dalmatians and Hairspray the Musical’s ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’. There were also several sax and clarinet ensembles, as well as string ensembles and soloists who performed some great tunes. Throughout the afternoon former staff, present staff and also former students gave speeches, and the whole afternoon ended with an emotional rendition of ABBA’s ‘Thank You for the Music’ as a tribute to Mr Foster’s work at St Helen’s over the year. The Jazz Afternoon, as always, was the highlight of the musical year!
The Jazz Afternoon was such a lovely experience! The atmosphere in the Quad with the families and teachers was so great to be able to be in – everyone had a smile on their faces! From Bar 61 to Big Band, there was something for everyone to enjoy (and, of course, the strawberries and cream) and I really enjoyed being a part of the concert. My favourite part was when everyone sang to Mr Foster at the end, it was a lovely way to say thank you and goodbye to him.
