In May the Junior Department embarked on their annual residential trip, this year to Stratford upon Avon, with a greatly anticipated stop at Cadbury World. They participated in a workshop that included writing their names in liquid chocolate and dressing up as Mayans. The next stop was the Royal Shakespeare Company where they enjoyed a workshop on The Tempest – fuelled by chocolate, it was a very physical and vocal session.
The next day the group visited Tudor World where they received a guided tour of Stratford from ‘Shakespeare’ himself, seeing Shakespeare’s school, house and burial site. After a well-earned ice cream, they toured Mary Arden’s farm, meeting a selection of owls, eagles and cows. In the evening they went to the theatre to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was many of the girls’ favourite part of the trip. They finished the day with a meal at Pizza Express that contrasted greatly to the Tudor food learnt about the next morning.
The trip rounded off with a visit to Warwick Castle that included role plays, tall towers and trebuchets. One student said that the best part was watching her friend getting put in the stocks. The trip came to an end with a final stop at Frankie and Benny’s for more pizza!
