At the end of a very successful netball season, our annual competition March Madness was celebrated by all players. 12 teams included those who have played recreationally and those who have competed for the School and were headed up by Sixth Form captains in a variety of fancy-dress outfits. Team names and outfits are always hotly anticipated and this year’s array did not disappoint! Juliet’s Bankers, Scarlett’s Gems, Morris’ Dancers, Hannah’s Bananas and Lovibond’s Leopards to name but a few. Zoe’s Zoo Animals won the prize for the best-dressed team with many animal onesies on display which made playing netball more of a challenge than usual.
Numerous awards are presented at the end of the competition with Bessie Blake and Sarah Haycock winning Bouncing Bunnies, Solid as a Rock defenders were Holly Gilbert and Charlotte Bedford and the Braveheart award went to Freya Pollard. EJ’s PJs and Pilbeam’s Pirates demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition with the Headmistress’ Award going to the captain of Tanky’s Tiaras, Tanika for her stunning ball gown costume. The St Helen and St Katharine Netball Cup is awarded to students who have shown improved performance and development. This was jointly awarded to Erin Clarke and Esme Brawn, who both have matured as players and lead by example on court. A special mention to the Shooting Stars winners, Imogen Watson-Sinclair and Poppy McGlyne. Both students are in Year 7 and helped Pilbeam’s Pirates and The Name’s Bond, Lovibond reach the final with some outstanding shooting against students from older year groups. Both teams dominated the group stages, but the Champions of March Madness 2020 were Pilbeam’s Pirates!
