On the first Sunday of half term, a team from St Helen and St Katharine was lucky enough to qualify and compete at NSEA Eventers Challenge Championships at Hickstead. It was a fantastic day, we had the worry of thunder storms throughout, but luckily the storms held off and it was beautiful sunshine all day. In the morning Sophie (8J) competed in the 70cm Eventers Challenge, she rode a superb clear round winning her second place in the individual section.
Later in the day Mia (8M) Scarlet (8K), Zoe (9L) and Sophie again competed in the 80cm Eventers Challenge. The class went on late into the afternoon and early into the evening. Finally, the girls were the penultimate team to jump and they knew there was tough opposition, at half past eight in the evening the tension was high and the light was fading. The first rider was Zoe, she rode a good round with an unfortunate two poles down. The second rider was Mia, her amazing clear round held the spirits high. Unfortunately, Scarlet had a pole down but still flew around the course in style. Our final rider was Sophie who rode a great round with no faults leaving the team on a fantastic four faults, which put them into fourth place overall. There were over two hundred riders competing in the class and our St Helen’s girls rode their hearts out to get placed. A great achievement for all students. Well done!
