We were delighted to hold our end-of-year Prize Giving ceremony in the Sports Hall last term, welcoming Upper Sixth parents ‘live’ and everyone else online. Our brilliant new prefect team took on their roles as ushers with glee – any excuse to don boaters and blazers! – and Mrs Dougall reflected on the challenges of the past year, as well as paying tribute to the strength of spirit of the school community: “Let this Prize Giving now signal that life at St Helen and St Katharine went on and goes on.”
Prizes were presented in the usual way, recognising achievement and endeavour in a vast array of arenas. Congratulations to all prize-winners, and especially to Upper Sixth leavers.
Head Girl 2020–21, India, gave her farewell address with great emotion and humour, emphasising all that is to come for Upper Sixth as they leave St Helen’s for their next steps. Our guest speaker was alumna Dr Ruth Naylor, whose work centres on female education around the world, asking ‘What can an educated girl do?’ – a truly inspiring address. Head Girl 2021–22 Olivia gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the School, reflecting on the power of education and our duty to grasp the opportunities we are offered.
