Year 8 students visited Rutherford Appleton Laboratories and took part in some exciting activities:
'I really enjoyed the day overall. It gave me some insight into some of the experiments performed in real labs, and we saw some of the multi-million pound equipment that is used. First, we met some scientists online, who gave us a live-streamed tour of the underground lab (to minimize radiation that affects experiments), and some of the procedures that they go through before entering their clean rooms. We then saw some huge lasers, and learned about their purposes: for example, airport security. There was also a large building with neutron-firing equipment. Finally, we watched some experiments performed in the Lecture Theatre.'
